Be gentle with me…. I’m a digital virgin!

Well, maybe that’s not strictly accurate as I lost my digital virginity a little while ago. But I keenly remember the moment when I was first introduced into the exotic and mysterious world of Internet Marketing. I felt excited, nervous; full of anticipation and trepidation.

How to start digital marketing!

What’s it like? Does it hurt? Will it make me go all wobbly at the knees? I was bursting to know what it was all about but had a huge sense of “fear of the unknown” and I didn’t really know how, or where, to take that all important first plunge.

I think my feelings of uncertainty were amplified by my traditional sense of business marketing; of doing things the “good old fashioned way”. Like many of you must be, I was a little sceptical of this new-fangled approach to doing business. I come from the macho blokey business environment of Bus and Train aftermarket sales…. no room for flouncy buzzwords and clever macro whatsits here, no way.  Tell it like it is on a piece of laminated grease resistant paper that can be thrown around the garage (or office) floor …. Or so I thought. But, to be fair, some industries do lend themselves much more readily to this new era of Digimarketing, and, thankfully for us, the property industry is a Class A, Numero Uno , Top Notch candidate for this exciting new tool. We are lucky, very lucky indeed.

What is internet marketing all about?

So, with my trepidation put to one side and my brave head well and truly attached, I took my first steps into trying to understand what “Digital Internet Marketing” was all about. I had a great coach who shall remain nameless (the cheque’s in the post Carol!), who gently and methodically explained it all to me, in language I nearly understood, sorry I mean clearly understood. It took a while, but soon I got it and the penny dropped.  Changing long-term habits and methodology can be difficult and challenging on many levels, but we all have to adapt to change in order to survive and thrive. I knew that and was keen to embrace this exciting new (to me anyway) marketing theatre.

So, what I really want to try and get across is simply this.. don’t be scared to explore this Brave New World, there is so much to gain from embracing new methods and techniques that help you build your business and, of course, sell your products or service. And remember, if you don’t, your competitor likely will.
